Housing remains on the list of some of the most contentious issues in South Africa. With research showing that about 7.5 million are still in need of adequate housing with a greater percentage of this figure living in rural or Peri-urban areas. In order to make a contribution towards the empowerment of citizens with decent shelter and housing conditions, the Rural Housing Loan Fund (RHLF) was established.
RHLF is a non-profit company which was established in 1996 by the national Department of Housing with initial grant funding from the German development bank. The Rural Housing Loan Fund (RHLF) was established with a vision of being a wholesale development finance institution taking on the responsibility of enabling low-income earners to access small affordable loans. This entails facilitating housing micro-loans through intermediary or retail housing finance lenders.
The lending structure has been built in such a way that partners borrow funds from RHLF and then lend to individual clients in the rural areas, small towns and secondary cities of South Africa. This kind of lending structure enables RHLF to reach all corners of the country because retail lenders respond quicker to events and better understand local needs and circumstances.
Rural Housing Loan Fund (RHLF) is truly a sustainable, responsible social and economic development venture. This organisation can be contacted on 0116212500.
